An exquisite interior scene in oil, showing a man in a heavy brown overcoat, seated by the glowing embers of a fire. He is stoking the coals with a pair of below, as he perches on the edge of a green armchair. His rifle and and boots stand next to the fireplace, suggesting her has just returned home from hunting in the cold and is warming himself by the fire. The artist shows a highly skilled hand, executing the painting with great exactitude and confidence with medium. The small size of this painting only adds to its rustic charm. The painting is unsigned. A letter "B" has been inscribed on the reverse of the frame and on the reverse of the painting under the backing board.

The painting has been presented in a incredibly ornate, early 20thC gilt effect frame. The fame boasts ornate acanthus leaf molding and a molded inner window. The combination of the rustic painting and the ornate, gilt frame is truly wonderful.
