Description

A wonderfully fine 19th century watercolour depicting a ground of young children heading towards the shoreline for a day of fishing. The eldest boy holds a net and helps his two younger siblings carry a large wicker basket. The artist has captured the scene with delicate detail with special attention given to one child's gingham apron and another's spotted neckerchief. Although this study bears a signature 'J.S. Cotman' we do not believe this was signed by John Sell Cotman (1782-1842). The signature may have been added to the study at a later date. The watercolour is well presented in a gilt effect frame.
On watercolour paper.

Condition

Overall the condition is very good for a picture of this age. There is some minor discolouration but overall the colours have kept very well. Some minor scuffs to the frame.
