Early 19th Century Watercolour - Letter Writing
Description
An exquisite watercolour study depicting a regency woman in her finery sat in an interior. In her hand she holds a quill to the letter she is writing but stares into the distance, lost in thought. This portrait is an excellent example of early 19th century fashion - the blue lace, the fine jewellery and extravagant hat all play into the high fashion standards of the upper class. Beautifully presented in an ornate gilt frame with swept edges and fine floral details with an oval cut mount. The frame is placed within a gilt shadow box with velvet lining. On white bone-like substrate.Condition
The painting's substrate has split on the left hand side running vertically down the piece. There is some further damage to the centre left that has resulted in paint loss. There is some even discolouration in the background of the painting with the some light surface marking to the upper half of the image. There is some light scuffing to the exterior gilt frame.
