Early 19th Century Watercolour - Girl In Pink
Description
A delicate an ghostly portrait of a pretty young girl in a pink corseted dress. The artwork appears to be rendered in a mix of watercolour or gouache with pastel detailing. The portrait has been applied to a heavily gessoed wove or thin board. The brush strokes of the gesso are clearly visible under the thin paint and pastel.
The portrait is unsigned and has been presented in a fine 19th Century gilt frame with stick and ribbon molding and beaded strap work. The frame still retains its original crown glass glazing.
On gesso wove.Condition
There is deterioration to the surface of the paint at the lower right corner and a hole in the lower right. There is light abrasion to the background in the upper left quadrant and considerable fading, discolouration and dirtying. The frame has some tarnishing and general surface scuffing and areas of very minor chipping.
