An exquisite Chinese, ornithological study of considerable age showing a pair of male and female Chinese pheasants surrounded by native flora. The male pheasant is showing off his plumage and lowering his head in a mating dance. The delicacy of the artist's hand shows through in the fine detailing of the feathers and the eyes of the birds.
The painting is presented in an early 20thC ornate frame with acanthus leaf and floral molding and a real silver gilt slip. The frame boasts the original crown glass glazing and a cream card mount.
On pith paper.The painting has heavy discolouration, likely due to be displayed in direct sunlight. There is heavy damage to the delicate pith paper including losses to the upper left corner and lower left quadrant, the lower right quadrant and the top of the right edge. There are three vertical tears from the lower edge that have retouched. The frame has small losses to three corners but is in overall good condition.
