An exquisite Chinese, ornithological study of considerable age showing a pair of Chinese blue magpies by native flora. The delicacy of the artist's hand shows through in the fine detailing of the feathers and the eyes of the birds.
The painting is presented in an early 20thC ornate frame with acanthus leaf and floral molding and a real silver gilt slip. The frame boasts the original crown glass glazing and a cream card mount.
On pith paper.The pith paper has some discolouration and a prominent patch of light burn to the upper right quadrant. There is some mottling on the bird's wings. There are several stress marks to the pith running vertically from the bottom edge. There is a small tear to the pith at the leg of the left bird and a small loss to the pith at the right side of the lower edge. The frame has losses at three corners but is in otherwise good condition.
