Description
This fine oil portrait is full of personality and fine detail that builds a charming character profile for the subject of the painting, Mrs Elizabeth De Lascaux, wife of Thomas Thorpe De Lascaux. The De Lascaux family were prominent members of the Canterbury high society in The early 1800s and the dress and headpiece the subject is wearing in this painting shows this. The rich red background and sheen on her highly styled hair adds a feel of wealth to the portrait. The painting is unsigned but has two labels on the reverse stating the name of the subject and the date the of the painting (1828-1830). It presented in a handsome gilt effect, thinly reeded frame with an ornate inner border. Inscribed on the reverse. On Wooden board.Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some minor craquelure and a very small paint loss to the lower right quadrant. The frame is in fine condition with only minor chipping to the corners and lower edge..
