Description

A remarkable charcoal study of a muscular arm. The artist demonstrates a careful consideration of how the dramatic chiaroscuro lighting defines each tensed muscle. Dated to the lower right. Smartly presented in a wooden frame. On paper.

Condition

Overall the condition is very good for a drawing of this age. Some discolouration to the paper. Wear and some creases around the margins. Pin holes in each corner. The frame is in fine condition.

Size

56 x 39cm (22.0" x 15.4")
Framed Size: 61.5 x 41.5cm (24.2" x 16.3")

Collection Information

Undiscovered for a century, these fine academic studies have lain in a forgotten folio, created in 1885 by an unknown student of the South Kensington School of Art, which later became the Royal College of Art in London. Many are stamped E.S.K., a regular practice for works produced at the art school. Both classical and characterful works make up this eclectic selection, with some framed and ready to add a touch of quiet academic authority to your space.
