An artist of many talents, during his career Pittuck experimented with a number of different styles, underpinned by his work as an art master at Barnard Castle School.
A colourful collection of 20th century paintings of large proportion by accomplished fine art painter Douglas Frederick Pittuck (1911-1993).
Douglas Pittuck was born in London in 1911 and educated at Wallingford Grammar School and later the Ruskin School of Drawing and Fine Art. His tutors included Barnett Freedman, Eric Ravilious, Allan Gwynne-Jones and Albert Rutherston. His studies were unfortunately interrupted by conscription in 1940, when he joined the Oxford and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry as part of the war effort.
In 1948 Douglas was appointed Art Master at Barnard Castle School, a post which he occupied for twenty-five years, influencing a generation of artists. He exhibited widely including one-man shows at the Bowes Museum and Castle Gallery, Barnard Castle, County Durham. He painted up until his death at the grand age of 90.
