Douglas Phillips (1926-2012) - 1987 Oil Wind Blown Fields
Description
An expressionistic oil of a meadow of flowers, blown in the wind, with a cottage roof visible in the distance as birds wheel overhead. The artist has used a combination of smooth, gradiated paint and rough, impasto brush strokes with areas of sgraffito to create a landscape full of movement and depth.
The artist has signed to the lower right corner and the painting has been presented in a bronze effect, glazed frame with a large, internal, white cove and thing white mount.
On board.Condition
The painting is in fine condition. The frame has a loss to the outer edge at the lower left corner and general surface scuffing across the surface.

Artist Biography
Phillips studied at the former Dundee Art College in Bell Street before being called up to the army towards the end of the Second World War for service in India and Ceylon.
After leaving D C Thomson’s went on to illustrate over 100 books but also continued to maintain a connection with the company, featuring in more than one thousand issues of The People’s Friend as the pen and brush of J Campbell Kerr.
Latterly he followed in the footsteps of two artists he greatly admired, Joan Eardley and his good friend Lil Neilson, producing vibrant, expressive paintings of Catterline and the East Coast of Scotland which he loved so much.
