Artist Biography

Smart was born in Hammersmith, London in 1879. Smart studied etching and engraving under Frank Short and was elected an Associate of the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers in 1905 and a full member in 1922. Smart also showed at Colnaghi, Chenil Gallery, Connell & Sons, Fine Art Society, Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts, International Society of Sculptors, Painters & Gravers, Royal Academy of Arts, Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours and at the Walker Art Gallery. The V&A hold a print by him in their collection. His death was recorded in Gosport, Hampshire.
