Artist Biography
A leading English etcher, engraver and watercolorist, of the 1920s and 1930s, Douglas Ian Smart studied printmaking techniques in London, under Sir Frank Short. Smart was a member of the Royal Society of Etchers and Engravers, and exhibited frequently at the Royal Academy. He etched and painted in England, France, Spain and Italy. He exhibited at Colnaghi, Chenil Gallery, Connell and Son Gallery, The Fine Art Society, the Glasgow Institute, The International Society, The Walker Gallery, the Royal Academy, the Royal Society of Etchers and Engravers, and the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours. He specialized in architectural and landscape subjects.
