Douglas Ian Smart - Original 1921 Mezzotint. Mezzotint engraving with hand colouring. Signed in graphite lower right. Published by W.R. Howell, 1921. Signed. On chine-collé. Various worm holes to lower half of page, most of which does not effect image itself (There is one small hole just above the boat in the foreground). Otherwise in fine condition.

Douglaid Ian Smart (1879-1970) was born in Hammersmith, London, the son of the painter Charles Ion Smart. He studied at the Royal College of Art, London. His subject matter was mostly confined to landscapes scenes in England, France, Spain and Italy, and particularly river scenes. The River Thames, beside which he lived most of his life, was a frequent source of inspiration.
