This small accomplished collection combines rich palettes and a strong sense of tone to create an impressive series of opulent still life studies.
Dorothy Southern was an artist from the North East of England who married fellow artist Trevor Frankland RBA in 1957, after the two met in their teenage years.
In 1969, Trevor and Dorothy took the first of many trips abroad, travelling through the Middle East and North Africa and beyond to Afghanistan and Iran, Pakistan and India. The many Islamic and Persian motifs and patterns evident in her work are a testament to the influence of her extensive travels. She had a keen eye for pattern and light, making for an atmospheric selection of works filled with intricately captured fruits, flowers and textiles.
