Description

A characterful etching (drypoint and acid bath), showing a quaint Seafront hotel with beach huts in the distance. Two figures walk along the sand. The artist has signed and dated at the lower edge in graphite. The original plate lines are in tact. The etching has been presented in a faux burr wood veneer frame with gilt inner window and card mount. On paper.

Condition

The condition is typical for a picture of this age including minor discolouration. The frame is in fine condition.

Artist Biography

Dietmar Lemcke ( born January 13, 1930 in Goldap , East Prussia ; † February 2, 2020 ) was a German paint and professor at the Berlin University of the Arts.
After fleeing East Prussia, Lemcke studied in Berlin from 1948 to 1954 at the Academy of Fine Arts. His teachers included Karl Schmidt-Rottluff, Karl Hofer and Ernst Schuhmacher (1905-1963). Immediately after completing his studies, Lemcke received a one-year scholarship in 1954 at the Académie de Montmartre in Paris, where Fernand Léger was director at the time.
Lemcke took over a professorship at the Berlin Academy of Fine Arts in 1964 and worked there for 34 years. In 1998 Lemcke retired. His best-known students include Johannes Grützke and Burkhard Held , who later became the dean of fine arts at the Berlin University of the Arts .
Lemcke is a member of the Deutscher Künstlerbund , he is a member of the u. by his Expressionist teachers Schmidt-Rottluff and Hofer and by Max Beckmann in 1946, the Neue Gruppe München , and he also belongs to the Neue Darmstädter Sezession , which was initiated in 1945 . From 1955 to 1990, Lemcke took part in exhibitions with his own works in all three artists' associations.
Dietmar Lemcke was a member of the Deutscher Künstlerbund .
Dietmar Lemcke died shortly after his 90th birthday on February 2, 2020. He was buried in the Schöneberg III cemetery in Berlin (section 22, grave 310).
