Cox was a painter, born in Falmouth, Cornwall, and was also trained as an aeronautical engineer. He later turned to pottery and eventually began to paint during the late 1930s. Largely self-taught, he moved to St. Ives, Cornwall at the end of World War II. He became secretary of the St. Ives Society of Artists on the death of his old friend Borlase Smart. He was also a founder member of the Penwith Society of Arts and is best remembered for his delicate paintings of children on Mediterranean beaches. A prolific exhibitor, Cox showed at the Leger Galleries, Leicester Galleries, Marlborough Fine Art, Royal Academy, NEAC, LG, RWA, and ROI. He was a member of the Royal West of England Academy and the Royal Institute of Oil Painters and ran a private art school in Suffolk for many years.
