A very fine watercolour landscape with body colour. Well presented in a washline mount and gilt effect frame. Signed and dated. On watercolour paper.Condition
Overall the condition is very good. With some very minor signs of discolouration along the top edge of the paper.

Artist Biography
David Bates (1840-19221) was born in March, Cambridgeshire and in 1855 he settled in Worcester to work as a porcelain painter. In 1880 he became a full time artist specialising in 'en plein air' painting, capturing English landscapes in both watercolours and oils. Influence from artists such as Samuel Henry Baker, Joseph Thors and Benjamin William Leader are evident within his work. His works are closely associated with the Birmingham School style. He exhibited at the Royal Academy as well as with The Royal Society of British Artists and the New Watercolour Society.
