Description

Am idyllic rural scene in oil from the late 19th Century, showing a picturesque river, winding its way through a copse of trees, with a blushing sunset reflected in the calm surface. The artist has signed and dated to the lower left corner and the painting has been presented in a substantial 19th Century gilt frame with laurel and berry molding and scrolling acanthus leaf strap work.. On canvas.

Condition

The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some age discolouration and patches of aged varnish. There is a canvas repair to the reverse which has been restored at the front. There is some craquelure to the surface. The frame has some areas of loss and restoration as well as tarnishing typical for its age.
