Conrad Peter Bergmann - Framed Early 20th Century Oil Oxen with Cart
Description
A working ox stands harnessed to a laden cart, its pale head turned towards us while the body fills the width of the composition. Warm chestnut and ochre tones are worked loosely against a dim barn interior, with light catching the white of the animal's face and lower legs. The handling is broad and confident, the emphasis firmly on the weight and patience of the farm animal. Well-presented in a vintage wooden frame. Signed lower right. On canvas.Condition
Signs of wear consistent with age. Light surface discolouration throughout, including yellowing to the varnish layer. Inspection under UV light reveals an area of restoration to the right-hand side. A tear to the canvas has been previously restored. The frame has minor surface wear and scuffs. Overall, the artwork is in very good condition for its age.
