An original oil painting by the British sporting artist Colin Graeme (1858-1910). The scene depicts a Gordon Setter and English Setter guarding a wicker hamper. The composition is signed 'Colin Graeme' to the lower right and dated '82. Well presented in a decorative gilt-effect frame adorned with delicate running patterns. On canvas on stretchers.Condition
The condition is very good for a picture of this age. The canvas has been relined to the reverse. Inspection under UV light reveals minor retouching to the surface of the painting. There is some craquelure to the surface. The gilt-effect frame is in good condition. Minor wear to the framing profile on all sides. Stable cracking to the various running patterns. The overall condition of the artwork is good.

Artist Biography
A painter of animal subjects, particularly horses and dogs, who was born in Argyll, Scotland, and later moved to the Sheffield area. He is thought to be the brother of Clarence Henry Roe and Robert Ernest Roe and a son of artist Robert Henry Roe. His early work is signed Colin Graeme Roe, but he is believed to have fallen out with his family and thereafter ceased to use the family name.
