An impressive and vibrant oil painting by well listed British artist Colin Cairness Clinton Campbell (1894-1970). Although the artist has not directly signed the work, from the attribution and style of the work we are confident that the artwork is indeed in Campbell's distinctive hand. The brilliant use of contrasting tones displays Campbell's considered approach to the still life subject. Verdant greens and evocative oranges elevate this traditional genre, Campbell's approach modern yet ever aware of art historical convention. Producing various similar compositions which all constitute a centrally positioned pot plant against a rich interior space, Campbell displays his keen eye for interior design. His paintings carry an awareness of their decorative value and positioning in the domestic space. These were not paintings destined for the white walls of the gallery, instead Campbell produced art for the home.
Well presented in a modern gilt effect frame with floral ornament. Inscribed on the reverse 'I certify that this is a genuine oil painting by Colin Campbell.'
There is light surface dirt visible across the artwork and minor paint loss to the upper right corner. With a minor loss to the upper left corner of the frame.

Colin Cairness Clinton Campbell (1894-1970) was a portrait and flower painter who studied in New York and at Byam Shaw School of Art and Slade in London. During the 1930’s he lived in Scotland and later in Kent. He exhibited at the RSA, AAS and GI. There is a portrait by him of William Booth housed in the NPG.
