An impressionistic oil of a river scene with an arched bridge, and houses in the background. Areas of thick impasto. Signed. On canvas on stretchers.Condition
Two small areas of paint loss to the upper edge of the canvas. The canvas has been lightly varnished giving it a slight sheen. Otherwise in fine condition.

Artist Biography
Clifford Hanney (1890-1990) was a well known artist born in Publow, near Bristol where he spent most of his life. Hanney studied at Southampton School of Art, from 1913 -14, then after WWI at Bristol School of Art, 1919-23. After his studies he became an art teacher, working his way up to Headmaster at Crewe School of Art, 1943-50. Hanney was an elected a member of the RWA as early as 1923, he was also connected to the Bristol Savages, where he was elected president in 1961. Hanney also showed at the Royal Academy, ROI, RBA, RSMA, Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool, Manchester City Art Gallery and at Oldham Art Gallery, the latter two galleries holding examples of his work. He was married to the painter Eirene Hutton-Seed and died a few days before his 100th birthday.
