Clifford Cyril Webb RBA RE SWE (1895-1972) - Original Mid 20th Century Woodcut. A wonderful woodcut showing a jungle scene with a cheetah, antelope and other animals. It is signed in pencil to the lower right under the image, and titled in pencil to the lower left. Very nicely presented in a cream mount and light gold frame. Signed and inscribed. On wove. Condition is typical for a picture of this age including some very light age toning, but generally the condition is very good, with no foxing or tears. Frame is in good condition.Clifford Cyril Webb was a wood engraver, etcher and painter. Born in London, Webb studied at Westminster School of Art. In the 1920s he soon established a reputation as one of Britain's most interesting engravers. He specialised in landscapes and animal subjects, illustrating a number of books, notably for the Golden Cockerill Press, and published many children's books. He exhibited at the RA, NEAC, LG, RE, NS and SWE and his work is in the collections of the British Museum and Victoria & Albert Museum. Webb taught drawing at Birmingham School of Art, 1922-1926, engraving at the St. Martin's School of Art and lectured at Westminster School of Art. He lived at Abinger Hammer, Surrey.
