Claude Horsfall (1907-2003) - 20th Century Oil Barden Tower

Description

A landscape depicting Barden Tower, a ruined building in the Parish of Barden in Wharfedale, North Yorkshire. The tower was used as a hunting lodge in the 15th and 16th centuries and, despite a renovation in the 1650s, it fell into disrepair in the 18th century. Presented in a white painted wooden frame with a linen slip. Signed to the lower-right edge. Artist's label on the verso that includes the title. On board.

Condition

There are some very slight surface marks to the painting and frame but overall in excellent condition.

Artist Biography

Claude Horsfall (1907-2003) was a painter of landscapes in oil and a house decorator by trade. Skipton born and bred, he was encouraged by Reginald Brundrit and he painted many Yorkshire Dales scenes as well as the Lakes and Scotland.
