Claude Honoré Hugrel (1880-1944) - Large Signed 1926 Gouache French Shepherdess
Description
A stunning signed French pastoral view by the acclaimed French artist Claude Honoré Hugrel (1880-1944), depicting a shepherdess driving her flock along a country lane. The artist has included some small details in pastel and charcoal, such as texture in the rooftops and details in the sheep. The expert handling of gouache has created areas of impasto, in particular to the sky. Signed and dated by the artist to the lower right, beautifully presented in a modern gilt frame. A label plaque to the lower frame edge gives the artist's name and title. With a label verso from Upstairs Gallery Framers & Restorers, London. On board.Condition
The appearance is excellent. There are areas of small scattered foxing and spotting - in the upper right sky and to the cottage in particular. Inspection under UV light shows no signs of restoration. Frame is in good condition.
