Claud Scott - 1888 Watercolour Seeking Justice
Description
A characterful and fun watercolour Jacobean interior scene full of narrative. A man presents his bloodied and bandaged hand the a council of men, deliberating in front of a grand fireplace in a Jacobean room. The assailant is brought in by guards to the left side of the painting as people gather round to watch. The room is wonderfully rendered with many period details such as the barley twist details around the fire, carved wooden settle in the lower right corner and carved porch around the door frame.
The artist has signed and dated the lower right edge. The painting has been handsomely presented in a wide, gilt effect frame with glazing and a cream/pink card mount with layered inner window. There is a label at the back with information about the painting and the artist.
On wove.Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and foxing. The frame and mount are in fine condition.
