Charming 19th Century Oil - Richmond Bridge
Description
A charming 19th century oil depicting a river scene with figures walking on a tow path to the foreground, and a Royal barge making its way down the river. Also depicted is the stone arch bridge that crosses the River Thames at Richmond. The painting has been inscribed on the reverse ' Richmond Bridge'. It is well presented in a heavy and ornate decorative gilt frame with detailed moulding. Unsigned. On canvas on stretchers.Condition
There is scattered craquelure but the paint layer is sound and stable. There is overall darkening typical for a picture of this age. Inspection under UV light reveals no restoration to the picture. There has been some restoration to the frame where the moulding has been painted over in gold. There is some cracking to the moulding on the frame but again this is typical for a picture of this age.
