Artist Biography

Little is known about the life of Charlotte Heister (1921-1998); however, her artistic legacy speaks volumes. She received training under Fred Hartig (1901-1973) and pursued further studies at the State Industrial College. In 1946, she moved to Berlin, where she continued her artistic development. A passionate traveller, Heister journeyed across Germany, France, Italy, Austria, and Greece, documenting the people and places she encountered. She held a number of exhibitions, including one solo show at the Grosse Berliner Kunstausstellung in 1958 and two group exhibitions in 1959 and 1960. She was regularly commissioned to illustrate books, magazines, and newspapers. Despite the limited documentation of her personal life, her surviving work remains a testament to her unique style and skill.
