Charles William Taylor was a painter, etcher and engraver, born in Wolverhampton. He studied at Wolverhampton School of Art and the RCA as a mature student in the 1920s, having originally trained with a firm of commercial engravers until 1905. His printmaking came to the public attention in the mid-1920s and over the next decade, he produced a small but interesting number of works, mostly wood engravings of unspoilt rural areas in the south and east of England. He also taught art at the Southend School of Art and exhibited at the Royal Hibernian Academy, the Royal Scottish Academy and once at the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours. He was elected an Associate of the RA in 1922 and RE in 1930. The V&A, British Museum, National Gallery of Canada, and Ashmolean Museum, Oxford all hold examples of his work.
