Artist Biography
Born in Chiswick, London Small was an artist, printmaker poster designer and author who was an expert on English Mediaeval and early Renaissance wrought iron work writing many books on the subject. His knowledge also covered brickwork and mouldings of the Tudor period and architecture of a similar era. He was referred to as Tunstall-Small (sometimes not hyphenated) but as yet nothing is known of his art education. Multi-faceted, Small designed posters for the London North Eastern Railway and held a solo exhibition at Walker's Gallery in 1938. His posters are in the collection of the GAC and the NRM.
