Charles Stephen Meacham (1860-1940) was an illuminator, poster designer, painter, and illustrator born in Catford, Kent (now London) who studied at Birmingham School of Art. He also taught part-time at Bournville School of Art and at Wolverhampton School of Art. Meacham traveled to South Africa in 1919 where he and his wife remained until c.1923. While there he was employed by Ohlsson's Brewery, brewing being his main trade. On returning to England, Meacham participated in the 17th exhibition of the Arts and Crafts Exhibition Society at the Royal Academy in London in 1926. Between 1924 and 1933 he also exhibited at the Royal Institute of Oil Painters in London, the Royal Cambrian Academy in Conwy, Wales, the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool, and at the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists. Examples of his work are in the collections of Gracefield Arts Centre and Tunbridge Wells Museum and Art Gallery. He died in Godstone Green, Surrey.
