A detailed Dutch still life by Charles Joseph Grips (1825–1920), depicting a busy kitchen interior with a dressed table laden with ceramic vessels and jugs, draped rugs and cloth, and a dead goose. Grips's meticulous handling of the oil medium realistically captures elements of stone, metal, pottery and textile, all illuminated by natural light from an open doorway. Well presented in a gilt-effect frame with foliate ornamentation to the cove. Signed lower left and dated 1852. On panel.
Condition
Signs of wear consistent with age. A vertical split in the panel substrate has been previously repaired. Inspection under UV light shows minor overpainting in the same area. The frame has light surface wear. Overall, the artwork is in good condition for its age.
