The condition is remarkable for a picture of this age with some discolouration. There is some debris trapped behind the glazing and the frame has some surface scuffing and slight denting.

Lauder was the son of John Thompson Lauder, portrait painter, and a relative of Robert Scott Lauder, the tutor of many distinguished Scottish artists. He studied at The Glasgow School of Art under C Heath Wilson and Robert Greenlees. He principally painted street scenes, marine and architectural subjects. He was elected RSW in 1885, and resigned in 1913.
