Charles H Hodges after Charles G Stuart - 1792 Mezzotint William Brownlow
Description
A fine mezzotint portrait of the Right Honorable William Brownlow engraved by Charles Howard Hodges (1764-1831) after the original painting by Charles Gilbert Stuart (1755-1828). There is a copy of this print in the archives at the National Portrait Gallery. There is an inscription showing the title, information about the sitter and the publisher's name and address and date of publication. The original artist and the sculptor have been inscribed to the lower edge.
The print is presented in a thin black, glazed frame.
On wove.Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. There is some foxing across the surface of the print. The frame has some scuffs and scratches to the surface and small losses at the lower right and left corners.

Artist Biography
Gilbert Charles Stuart was an American painter from Rhode Island Colony who is widely considered one of America's foremost portraitists. His best known work is the unfinished portrait of George Washington, begun in 1796, that is sometimes referred to as the Athenaeum Portrait.
Charles Howard Hodges, was a British painter active in the Netherlands during the French occupation of the 18th and early 19th century.
