Charles Edward Hern was an English painter who worked with watercolours. Hern moved to Australia in 1873 for about ten years but returned to England before his death. Hern lived in Hyde Park, London and exhibited in the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour, Dowdeswell Galleries, Fine Art Society, The Dudley and New Dudley Galleries and most notably at the Royal Academy. He was given a great honour when he was commissioned to teach watercolour painting to the Daughters of the Prince of Wales (later Edward VII), HRH Princess Maud and Princess Victoria.
