Artist Biography
Based in Norwich, the Hannaford family comprised of two key artistic figures; Charles Edward Hannaford (1863-1955) and his son, Charles Arthur Hannaford (1887-1972). Both members of the Royal Society of British Artists, the Hannafords painted their surrounding landscapes with great skill and attention to detail. Subjects include the Norfolk Broads, Cornish and Dartmoor landscapes, Dutch canals and much more.
Charles Edward studied at the Stanhope Forbes School of Painting in Newlyn and also in Paris. He painted scenes in Kent, Essex, Suffolk and Yorkshire and exhibited at the RBA of which he was elected a member in 1916. He also showed at the RA, RCamA, RI, MAFA and at the Walker's Gallery, Bond Street, London. Much of his work was reproduced as postcards particularly his views of Devon and Cornwall.
