Austrian School 19th Century Oil - Portrait of a Young Boy in Uniform

Description

A charming nineteenth-century portrait of a young boy dressed in a military uniform. He wears a dark double-breasted coat with a blue collar and cuffs, silver buttons, and white gloves, and holds a matching blue cylindrical cap under his arm. The uniform most closely resembles Austrian military examples from the mid-nineteenth century. Well presented in an ornate gilt frame. American "Captain Moses Brown Marine Antiques" label verso. Unsigned. On canvas.

Condition

Signs of wear consistent with age, including discolouration and craquelure. Inspection under UV light reveals areas of overpainting. Scuffs and some losses to the corners of the frame. The corners of the frame have been remoulded. Overall, the artwork is in good condition for its age.
