Jean-Baptiste de Roy - Framed 18th Century Oil Cattle Farmers
Description
Cattle and farmers rest peacefully on the riverbank in this idyllic 18th-century oil. To the right, a woman and man watch over their livestock as the animals graze and drink at the water's edge. The pastoral scene is beautifully presented in a gilt-effect frame adorned with delicate running patterns. Unsigned. On canvas.Condition
Signs of wear consistent with age. Fine craquelure observed throughout. Light surface discolouration including yellowing to the varnish layer. There is a faint scratch mark just above the white cow. Slight impressions in the canvas from the reverse stretcher bars (top edge/right-hand edge). Inspection under UV light reveals minor overpainting in these areas and throughout the composition. The frame has light surface wear. Overall, the artwork is in good condition for its age.
