John Dawson Watson (1832-1892) was a British painter and illustrator. He was educated at King Edward VI Grammar School, Sedbergh School, and Manchester School of Design. He also studied at the Royal Academy Schools. With careful detail and vibrant colour, Watson took inspiration from the Pre-Raphaelites, especially the work of John Everett Millais. In 1861 he was commissioned by Routledge to provide 110 black and white drawings for an edition of Bunyan's Pilgrim's Progress. His son was the Impressionist painter Dawson Dawson-Watson.
