Artist Biography
Harold Kopel (1915-2009) was a painter and teacher born in Newcastle Upon Tyne, Northumberland. He attended University College in London and Central School of Arts & Crafts before becoming a secondary school art teacher and a senior lecturer in further education. He was a member of Royal Institute of Oil Painters and Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts, and took part in many mixed exhibitions, including the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, New English Art Club, Royal Society of British Artists, and Royal West of England Academy. He won a Silver Medal at Paris Salon and the Cornelissen Prize at 1990 Royal Institute of Oil Painters annual show. Examples of his work are held by the UCL Art Museum, Ben Uri Gallery, and Nuffield Foundation.
