Biedermeier Period Early 19th Century Oil - Gentleman of High Standing
Description
A distinguished Biedermeier-period portrait depicting a gentleman of high social standing, sporting his finest attire - a green coat trimmed with fur, a plum-coloured silk cravat, and glittering gold rings set with precious jewels. He is captured with a letter in hand, its text inscribed in characteristic German blackletter script, exuding an air of refinement. Unsigned. Beautifully presented in an ornate gilt frame with a detailed wood effect pattern to the inner. On canvas on stretchers.Condition
Fine craquelure and light abrasions throughout. Inspection under UV light reveals small areas of restoration. There is a faint impression to the canvas caused by the stretchers. Overall the artwork is in very good condition for its age. Wear to the frame, including scuffs, chips and fine cracks throughout. Overall the frame remains in good condition for its age.
