This charming early 20th century watercolour depicts a refined interior featuring classical statues, fine porcelain, brassware and textiles. Signed. Well presented behind glass in a gilt frame. On paper.

Condition

Light scratches to the lower right. Overall the artwork is in very good condition. Some wear to the frame including scuffs and small losses throughout. Overall the frame remains in good condition.

Artist Biography

Ketty Gilsoul-Hoppe (1868-1939) was a Belgian painter best known for her work in watercolour. She was born in Düsseldorf, the daughter of the engraver Edouard Hoppe, and received her artistic training at the Bisschoffsheim School in Brussels. In 1894, she married the painter Victor Gilsoul.Gilsoul-Hoppe specialized in interior scenes, landscapes, and cityscapes. Her painting Interior Hallway was featured in the 1905 publication Women Painters of the World, reflecting her recognition among notable women artists of the period.
