George Henry Laporte (1799-1873) was an English painter, particularly of horses. It is likely that he received his initial artistic training from his father, John Laporte, who was a noted watercolourist and etcher. His first exhibit was at the British Institution in 1818. Later, he was one of the founding members of the Royal Society of British Artists and was a regular contributor to their exhibitions. He also exhibited at the Royal Academy. He enjoyed widespread patronage, including being appointed as an official animal painter to the Duke of Cumberland and his son, Prince George of Cumberland. A few of his paintings are in Orientalist style, set in Egypt, which suggests that he may have travelled there at some point.
