An intimate nude study, rendered in terracotta tones and a sketchy, crosshatched style. Signed and dated to the lower right. Indistinctly inscribed to the lower left. Well presented in a vintage gilt-effect frame. On paper.

Condition

Signs of wear consistent with age including discolouration and light foxing. Marks and scuffs to the frame.

Artist Biography

Reginald F. Goodfellow was apprenticed to a structural engineer on leaving school and served with the Royal Engineers in Mesopotamia during World War I. Goodfellow was then employed as an engineer by the Ministry of Works. It was not until 1927 that his formal art training began, when he enrolled for classes at Westminster School of Art. His work was shown at the Parkin Gallery, and woodcuts by Goodfellow are in the collection of the British Museum.
