Description
This striking still life painting depicts a bouquet of Chinese Red Lanterns arranged in an antique Chinese vase decorated with figures. The composition is balanced by a darker vessel to the left, while the rich, shadowy background really makes the central arrangement stand out. The painting has been well presented in a black moulded frame with a gilt internal window. Signed to the lower left 'E. Kjerner' and dated 1935. On panel.Condition
A light scratch mark can be seen to the right-hand side of the panel. The overall condition of the artwork is very good.

Artist Biography
Esther Kjerner was a Swedish artist born in Stockholm. Kjerner studied at the Art Academy in Stockholm, as well as Paris and Rome. It was not long before her work was recognised and then taken to an exhibition of the art dealer Gösta Stenman in Stockholm. Esther Kjerner's work is highly sought after today and is now represented in the National Museum in Stockholm, Malmo Museum, Prince Eugen Waldemarsudde, Östersund, Norrköping, Kalmar and Eskilstuna Museum.
