W. Mcevoy after a follower Isaac van Ostade - 1912 Inn by A Frozen River
Description
This accomplished oil study takes inspiration from what was once thought to be an original by Dutch painter Isaac van Ostade (1621-1649). However, after studies were conducted and the piece had been thoroughly cleaned by The National Gallery London, experts found that 'Inn by A Frozen River' was not by the renowned Haarlem painter at all, but by one of his contemporary followers. Therefore this painting is after a follower of Isaac van Ostade.
The scene shows figures gathering outside of a quaint inn. To the left of the composition men drag boats on the ice of the frozen lake towards the shore.
