Description

An energetic abstract landscape by British artist Carole Page (b.1955), rendered with dynamic, gestural brushstrokes. With its earthy tones of maroon, brown, and blue, the composition evokes a vivid sense of the textural British countryside. Signed and dated to the lower left. Well presented in a substantial gilt frame. On canvas on stretchers.

Condition

Light abrasions and a small area of craquelure to the lower left. Overall the artwork is in good condition. The frame shows signs of wear consistent with age, including scuffs, indentations and chips throughout. The frame has been touched in with gold paint in small areas.

Artist Biography

Carole Page (b.1955) is a British painter, designer, illustrator, and educator. She studied at the Slade School of Fine Art before beginning her career in graphic design and illustration. Eventually settling in Cornwall, her artistic focus shifted toward painting, drawing inspiration from the region’s landscape, natural forms, and vibrant colour palettes. Page taught at Marlborough College's summer school and was an active member of both the Arts Centre Group in London and the Newlyn Society of Artists. Her work was featured in the landmark 1989 exhibition A Century of Art in Cornwall 1889–1989 at the Newlyn Orion Galleries, where her oil painting A Garden Enclosed was included. She lived in Newmill, Cornwall.
