Carlo Felice Biscarra (1823-1894), Italian School, oil on canvas. The scene depicts a young woman consoling her friend, whose lover has departed for war. Biscarra captures the pair beneath an old oak tree, with soldiers making haste in the distance. The painting is presented in a substantial gilt-effect frame. Signed 'C. F. Biscarra' and dated 1855 lower right. Bears label 'AVV. EUGENIO BONA' attached verso. Provenance: Private Collection, UK. On canvas.

Condition

The artwork exhibits signs of wear consistent with age. Inspection under UV light reveals various areas of overpainting. Light surface discolouration throughout, including yellowing to the varnish layer. The frame has minor surface wear, including small chips on all sides. This wear has been touched in with gilt paint. Overall, the artwork presents in very good condition.
