Description

This evocative interior scene depicts two women engaged in a musical performance, both playing a stringed instrument round a large wooden table. The composition is intimate and warmly lit, set in a cosy kitchen interior. Well presented in a beautiful and ornately decorated 20th-century picture frame. Running patterns hug the inner window and outer profile, while foliate punchwork meets acanthus ornamentation at the corners of the frame. The oil has been signed by the artist to the lower left. On canvas on stretchers.

Condition

The condition is typical for a picture of this age, including some surface discolouration and dirtiness to the oil. Light abrasion with some paint loss is visible to the right-hand edge. There is a small moulding loss to the frame's upper right-hand corner and small scuffs to all four rails.
