Description
A young woman sits on a table knitting, illuminated by natural light streaming through a window. The working-class subject matter and composition of the piece - with the window positioned on the left - are reminiscent of Vermeer, especially his seminal work The Milkmaid. Signed and dated to the upper right. Handsomely presented in a black frame with a gilt inner running pattern. On canvas on stretchers.Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age, including some discolouration and surface dirt. The artwork has undergone some restoration, including relining and overpainting. Scratches and scuffs to the frame.
